Missions Mornings with Norm Weatherhead (PBT)

Pioneer Bible Translators of Canada is pleased to host 2 Missions Mornings this summer at Bow Valley Christian Church in the Multi-purpose room taught by Norm Weatherhead (Missionary to Papua New Guinea). Light continental breakfast provided.
  • Saturday June 22 (9:30-11 am): Global Missions Advance: Great Commission of Christ to the 21st Century.
  • Saturday, July 20 (9:30-11 am): Reaching the Ends of the Earth: Bible Translation around the World.

Childcare not provided but families welcome! Baking or other breakfast goodies also welcome. We hope many from our family of churches will join us to hear His heart for the whole world.

Contact Inga at (403) 874-7464 for more info.

In this first of two seminars, (the second one being offered at the same place on July 20), Norm will give a brief biblical overview from Genesis to Revelation to show the missionary heart of God as He has sought from the very beginning to reach out to all the nations with His message of love and salvation. Then Norm will give a brief historical overview to show how the church has expanded from Jerusalem, to Judea, to Samaria and to the ends of the earth.

On Saturday, July 20, (same time, same place) Norm will concentrate his teaching on the ministry of Bible translation and show how important the role of translation has been to the expansion of the church. He will talk about the global task of Bible translation, and then zoom in on the translation work being done in Papua New Guinea.

Pray that people will come out to these two mission seminars and be encouraged by what God is doing through Bible translation, and challenged to see what part each of us can do to help support this kind of ministry work.

New Testament Celebration

This coming Sunday, June 23, will mark a major milestone in God’s Kingdom work. It was 39 years ago that William and Robin Butler began their translation ministry among the Waran people in the East Sepik province of Papua New Guinea. Many delays and interruption of the work happened over the years, but praise God, William and Samuel (the main national translator) persevered so that the Waran New Testament is now completed and published.

To help celebrate this great occasion, there are at least 30 people flying in from America to stand together with the Waran to welcome God’s printed Word finally to be delivered to the people there. Pray for safety this week and next as so many people are traveling in and out of PNG to be a part of this great celebration. Pray that God’s printed Word will touch and change the hearts of the Waran people. And praise God for His faithfulness in communicating His message of love and salvation to another people group in the world.

Other News

Meanwhile, back in Calgary, Norm has now started preparing his consultant questions on some Old Testament books of the Aruamu translation. In August – October, Norm will be consultant checking the books of Numbers, Hosea, 1 & 2 Chronicles. These will be the last of all the OT books for the Aruamu translation project. Another great milestone will happen when in about 16 months from now the Aruamu complete Bible will be ready to be printed and then delivered to the Aruamu people.

Norm’s other big task this year is to complete his doctoral thesis as the last stage in his journey to obtain his Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree. Norm has completed the first chapter (Introductory Matters), and drafted most of Chapter 2, which deals with today‘s world of multilingualism and begins to look at how language shift can occur when small language groups encounter large regional or international languages.

Pray that Norm will be able to keep up the pace of completing one chapter each month on this research project from now until Christmas.

We are so grateful for your partnership with us in prayer,

Norm & Jill Weatherhead
