Free Conversation Class

Starting Monday, September 19

Bow Valley Christian Church | Fireside Room

This class is for new speakers of English, ages 15 and up. All levels are welcome. You must be able to understand basic instructions and take part in a simple conversation. Come and practice your English speaking and listening skills in a relaxed setting with native English speakers, using a wide range of conversation topics about Canadian culture. Come have fun and make new friends.

This drop-in class meets weekly on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm, beginning on Monday, September 19 in the Fireside Room of Bow Valley Christian Church. This class is free, but small donations are welcome to cover materials. Our specialty coffee bar will be open, and donations are welcome.

Intermediate Level

The Chosen

Bow Valley Christian Church | Multi-Purpose Room

If you enjoy exploring history and culture, this course will engage your senses. Journey to Galilee in the first century and experience history and culture come to life in the acclaimed video series, The Chosen. Put yourself in the picture as you discuss the history, culture and faith of everyday people just like you. With an emphasis on vocabulary and usage, you will engage with Native speakers both in-person and online. (Workbook included)

The Class meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning on October 3. Monday’s class will meet at Bow Valley Christian Church in the Multi-purpose Room from 10:00 am – Noon, to view the video and discuss with conversation partners. Wednesday class will meet online via Zoom from 11:30–1:00 pm, and we will be joining a class of Polish students from Graceland English School in Krakow, Poland.

There is a $100 fee for curriculum for those that can afford it and subsidies are available for those that cannot. Please do not let this fee prevent you from registering!

Intermediate Level

Survivor II: Robinson Crusoe

This classic story has been rewritten at an intermediate level to allow students the joy of reading a classic novel. Students get a good workout in verb tenses and have plenty of practice determining when to use which tense. The student is often put in the position of a reporter to describe what is happening in Crusoe’s life.

This class will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays, at 2:00 pm in the Multi-purpose Room at Bow Valley Christian Church beginning on September 19. Upper Beginner Level

Prime Time 55+

Starting September 15

For those of us 55 years old and above who are entering the prime time of our lives. The goal is to develop a special community of new Canadians who have similar lifestyles and have similar issues dealing with Canadian Culture. There will be discussion questions related to our situation in life, and many games for an upper beginner English level to help with grammar, vocabulary, conversation, and of course fun.

We will meet weekly on Thursdays at 2:00 pm beginning Thursday, September 15 in the Fireside Room at Bow Valley Christian Church. This class is FREE. Our specialty Coffee Bar will be open, and donations are welcome.

Bible Study

Starts September 14

September 14 – December 14

Come and join us as we continue our study of the book of Matthew. This class is suitable for English levels from Lower Intermediate and above. We will address vocabulary, reading, speaking and listening skills. We will study the life of Jesus and His teachings and discuss how we can apply what we learn to our lives in today’s culture.

The class will meet weekly via a Zoom format on Wednesday evenings a 7:00 pm, beginning on September 14. This class is FREE.
