TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
(Calgary)

Bow Valley Christian Church (BVCC) is seeking a part time Technical Director. BVCC is an independent, non-denominational evangelical Christian church located in Northwest Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Currently, we average 575 Sunday morning attendees between two services and have a vibrant church community across all demographics and ethnic groups.

Role Description:

The Technical Director is tasked with moving forward the mission of BVCC by equipping members to find and follow Jesus through the provision of a high-quality worship experience. This includes oversight of sound, lights, media, and live stream volunteers and team members. Success in this role
will be evidenced by:

  • High-quality, professional, and engaging weekly worship experiences
  • Expanded participation of technical volunteers and team members
  • Creating a community of Belonging within team members through formal and informal opportunities to connect with one another

 

Key Responsibilities:

Worship Services:

  • Oversight and coordination of all worship service volunteers and leaders for BVCC sound, lights, livestream (including camera operators), and media (switching)
  • Hands on production management of worship services and events
  • Provide visionary leadership for the culture and practices of BVCC’s technical teams
  • Oversee and equip technical and creative teams for special events (especially Easter & Christmas Eve)
  • Assist with the provision of technical support, as needed, for non-Sunday morning worship/music events at BVCC
  • Develop and provide technical ministry opportunities for youth and young adults
  • Collaborate with the Worship & Creative Arts Director and Lead Pastor to ensure the provision of a high quality, professional, and engaging weekly worship experiences

Spiritual and Professional Growth & Pastoral Care:

  • Communicate opportunities for pastoral care to BVCC’s technical team members
  • Recruit, equip, and mentor volunteers and leaders for BVCC’s technical teams
  • Organize quarterly training events for the technical team
  • Participate in local or online technical ministry networking groups and explore professional development

Administration:

  • Develop and oversee the technical worship ministries budget
  • Oversight of BVCC technical A/V equipment and related software (including inventory and maintenance)
  • Scheduling of technical team volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Lead Pastor

 

What you bring:

  • 3+ years of live audio engineering and lighting expertise in a church, nonprofit, or professional setting - ideally with audience sizes of 600+
  • Experience in the recruitment and management of volunteers for worship & special events (including rentals, weddings, and funerals)
  • Creativity and out of the box thinking with a passion for utilizing technology to enhance worship experiences
  • A collaborative spirit to work with the music teams and other ministries to create an engaging worship experience
  • Excellence in organization and administrative skills - a proven multi-tasker
  • A/V troubleshooting and technical skills
  • A heart for people and desire to serve in building God’s kingdom
